Fire TV Cube Review
The Fire TV Cube is Amazon’s hands-free streaming media player with Alexa, providing users with an all-in-one entertainment experience. With its eight microphones, beamforming technology, and far-field voice recognition, the Fire TV Cube can hear voice commands from any direction. From anywhere in the room, you can ask Alexa to turn on your TV and play what you want to watch.
Experience amazing, true-to-life picture quality and sound with 4K Ultra HD up to 60 fps, HDR, and Dolby Atmos. Enjoy thousands of channels and apps. Get over 500,000 TV episodes and movies from Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, HBO, NBC, SHOWTIME, and more. Access YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, and many more websites via the Silk and Firefox browsers. Stream millions of songs through Spotify, iHeartRadio, and Prime Music. Subscription fees may apply.
Use voice control to give commands such as search, play, fast forward, pause, etc. In addition, control your TV, sound bar, cable/satellite box, or receiver with just your voice. The Cube is compatible with 90% of the cable and satellite boxes currently installed in homes, including those from Comcast, Dish, and DirecTV/AT&T U-verse.
But that’s not all the Fire TV Cube does. It lets you listen to the news, check the weather, dim the lights, control compatible smart home devices, and more. With Alexa, you can control a broad range of devices through the cloud, via infrared, and HDMI-CEC. The Cube will continue to get smarter with new Alexa skills.
There is a blue ring on the top of the unit which flashes blue when it is listening. Mute, pause and volume up/down buttons are located on the top as well. At the back, you will find the micro-USB port, infrared port, HDMI 2 port for connecting the unit to a TV, and power connector. The Fire TV Cube is equipped with a 1.5GHz ARM chip processor, 16GB of storage, and 2GB of RAM.
How to Get Started
1. Place the Fire TV Cube at least 1-2 feet away from the speakers.
2. Connect the Fire TV Cube to your TV’s HDMI port and home Internet.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts to set up your entertainment system.
Later this year, Fire TV Cube will support sleep timers. However, Bluetooth connections to mobile phones, multi-room music, and Alexa calling and messaging are not currently supported on Fire TV Cube. Included in the box are the following: the Fire TV Cube, power adapter, Alexa Voice Remote, two AAA batteries, quick-start guide, infrared extender cable, and Amazon Ethernet Adapter.
